What is your name? What is your age? What is your village?
Puran Kanwar. I am 18 and from Golia.

When did you come to the hostel?
- I’ve been here three years.

Describe your family. Describe the family members, who they are, their ages, etc. Tell how it is to live with your family. What were the hardships and challenges that you faced, living at home?
- I have two married sister, 25 and 22. Another is 16, unmarried. My brother is 14.
- My mother is well. My father is blind in one eye and losing his sight in the other. He can’t work, so we are poor. No one is earning money in the family.

What did you do before you came to the hostel? Work? Study?
- I went to school.
- I completed the fifth grade in Golia. Then I completed sixth through 12th by going by bicycle to another school. I was the only girl. Fifty boys and myself.

What challenges do you encounter here at the hostel?
- None.

Do you like the hostel, the school? In what ways do you like or dislike them?
- I like it here. I don’t have any problems in the hostel.

What makes you happy?
- Studying.

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?
- A good job.
- To marry before I get work. I will ask for a husband who will allow me to work.
- I want to have two children. I will give them a good education.

What would you like to do in the future?
- I want to be a teacher, students below the tenth grade.

What is your favorite thing?
- Computers. I would like an Indico car.

What would you have if you could have anything in the world?
- Money.

- She is perfect.

What makes you cry?
- To see my father blind and unhappy.
