What is your name, your age, and your village?
- Ranni Devi 20 years old, from Golia. (There are about 15 or 20 girls in the village who have trained in Jodhpur at Veerni. They all work at home, sewing for friends and family. They sell things when they can.)
What is your wage?
- I sew for my sisters, my mother. (This is considered to be a very good thing, as the money stays in the home and doesn’t pay an outsider to do the sewing.)
How long did you train with Veerni?
- I trained for two months, then I taught sewing here at the Golia sewing center for three months.
Would you like to have more sewing training? What is your opinion of Veerni’s training?
- I would like to learn to tailor. The training has enabled me to raise my standard of living.
Are you married? How many children do you have?
- Married, no children.
Are you literate? How do you keep account of the money you earn? Do you keep your salary or do you give it to someone else?
- I have passed the 8th form. There is no money exchanged. But sometimes she sells to neighbors. Money is simply spent for household use.
Would you like to earn more money if you could?
- Yes, then I could have anything that I wanted.
Should women work?
- I think all women should be able to earn money by sewing or teaching.
