- My name is Sarog Bharti. I’m 17, from Bawarla.
When did you come to the hostel?
- I’ve been here for two years.
Describe your family. Describe the family members, who they are, their ages, etc. Tell how it is to live with your family. What were the hardships and challenges that you faced, living at home?
- My dad’s in government service. He’s a typist in the courts. He makes 4000 rupees a month. My family is quite happy. I have two brothers and two sisters. One brother is married.
What did you do before you came to the hostel? Work? Study?
- I studied.
What challenges do you encounter here at the hostel?
- I like it here.
Do you like the hostel, the school? In what ways do you like or dislike them?
- I like to study and I’m getting a good education here, that I would not receive in the village. I want to stay here until I pass the 12th form, and then go on to college.
What makes you happy?
- I love to talk with my group of friends. I like to joke, to gossip, discuss film stars. We always talk, after we go to bed and the lights are turned off.
If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?
- To complete my studies.
- To get a good job.
- That my future husband has good behavior.
What would you like to do in the future?
- I want to study law and become a lawyer. I would like to study law in Jaipjur. Then, I will fight for the rights of Indian women.
What is your favorite thing?
- I would love to own a computer. I am a very fast and very good typist.
- I also would like to see Mount Abu, because it is said to be so beautiful.
Tell me about your mother.
- My mother is 39. She works hard and is a simple woman. She has no education, but is very good and kind.
What makes you cry?
- The only things that make me cry are problems in the family. For instance, if my sister-in-law fights with my parents, they get so upset, and then I too get upset.
