While Veerni was set up to empower women and girls by providing healthcare and education, it soon became clear that it was difficult to empower women if their
environment lacked even the most basic facilities. Most of the villages Veerni started in had no electricity, clean water, basic sanitation, health care and road access.
The social team became involved in the development of these villages, providing them with clean drinking water and access to electricity. The team collaborates with the local
government and helps the villagers with the necessary paperwork to sign up for electricity service. When funding is available, sandy tracks are replaced with proper roads, giving
the villagers easier access to the main road and the city.
In addition to community development, the social team goes out to the villages to hold educational meetings and discussions with both women and men. Some of the topics covered
are hygiene, nutrition, domestic violence, girls' education and women's rights. As men are still the main decision makers in these rural areas, it is crucial to involve them and discuss
topics such as AIDS, domestic violence and addiction.
